Corrie fans ‘won’t have it’ after Roy Cropper’s shock exit is teased

Coronation Street fans have already aired their thoughts on the possibility of a soap icon leaving the street.

Latest spoilers for the ITV soap suggest Roy Cropper is planning on ditching life in Weatherfield after calling it home for 26 years.

The character, played by much-loved actor David Neilson, will be seen preparing to leave the street after struggling with a secret.

Roy lied to the police on the night of the sinkhole collapse, claiming he didn’t see Abi Franklin with a gun and threatening to kill Corey Brent.

Next week, viewers will discover that the gun Abi bought off her ex, and Seb’s dad, Tez has been found.

And DS Abney calls at No.13 to reveal that the weapon used to kill Natasha was the same gun used by Tez in a raid several years ago.

Later, Nick calls in the cafe and tells Roy how the police are in the process of tracing the gun that was used to kill Natasha.

Roy advises Abi to tell the police the truth about the gun just before DS Abney calls at the cafe and tells Roy that she has some more questions she’d like to ask him about the night of the sinkhole collapse.

Roy has to lie for Abi again

The cobbles icon then tells Abi that yet again he’s had to lie to the police on her behalf.

Soon he’s making arrangements to leave Weatherfield, including signing over his entire estate to niece Nina Lucas and selling his beloved motor, Woody.

Nina is soon left frightened Roy is going to take his own life – but Roy then reveals that he plans to leave the street for good.

Viewers will be left wondering if Nina stop Roy from leaving the street he loves.

But Corrie fans are already not happy about it.

Doreen added: “Oh god I hope he’s not leaving I love Roy.”

“Roy is Coronation St. Without Roy there is NO Coronation St. PLEASE STAY ROY WE LOVE YOU,” Kathy shared.

Janice commented: “Nooo! Roy has to stay! He’s brilliant actor..wouldn’t be same without him.”

“Roy’s character is definitely one that the street needs, won’t be the same. He is almost like the glue that holds things together,” Lee added.

Connie said: “Oh no! I hope David Neilson isn’t considering leaving the Street!!! Can’t happen!”

David Neilson, 72, has played the Corrie great since 1995.

While it started as a guest role, the following year he was signed up for a regular role and the rest, as they say, is history.

He was recently crowned Best Soap Actor at the TV Choice Awards, much to the delight of fans, after being involved in the soap’s hate crime storyline.
