Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s ITV This Morning return confirmed

Holly Willougby and Phillip Schofield will be back on This Morning very soon.

The presenting duo, who have hosted the show together since 2009, baffled viewers when they failed to return to the show after Christmas.

The first set of episodes of the year are being presented by usual Friday hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

It came as a surprise to This Morning viewers when they first tuned in on Tuesday (January 4).

And it wasn’t just them as Alison and Dermot appeared to address viewers comments moments into Wednesday’s show.

Opening the show, dancing along to Eminem’s track Without Me, which was being played out in the studio, Alison said: “Yes we are back.”

“I mean it’s a day late,” Dermot protested. “We were here yesterday, why didn’t they play this yesterday?”

“I know, I know,” Alison agreed as Dermot then asked: “Are they surprised we’re back?”

“Everyones surprised,” Alison then remarked to which Dermot confessed: “You’re no more surprised than we are to be back.”

Alison and Dermot have been hosting the show

However, normal service will be resumed next week as Holly and Phil will return to the popular daytime show on Monday, January 10, an ITV spokesperson has confirmed.

The pair’s last live episode took place on December 17 before they appeared on the This Morning Christmas Special on Christmas Day, which was pre-recorded.

An advert featuring Holly and Phil is also now being aired on ITV.

But it may come as a disappointment as some This Morning viewers have been demanding a completely different duo be brought back to host the show.

Vernon Kay made his hosting debut on the programme alongside Josie Gibson just before Christmas.

Vernon Kay was a hit on the show

At the time, viewers thought Phillip’s job was ‘under threat’ thanks to the Bolton TV star.

Former Big Brother winner Josie was also a hit with viewers having already covered for Holly in November whilst she was off sick for three days with a stomach bug.

Rochelle Humes also made a return to the programme for some of the week with Vernon.
