Kate Ferdinand has shared her heartbreak as she told fans she lost her second child. The former The Only Way Is Essex star took to Instagram to tell of her news alongside a snap of her in hospital for the first time since welcoming her son, Cree, with husband Rio Ferdinand.
Posting to the social media platform on Wednesday (July 27), Kate shared a black and white snap of herself with her feet up on a hospital bed as she donned a medical gown. She explained to her 1.4million followers how she was admitted to hospital after a routine scan failed to detect her baby’s heartbeat.
She wrote: “The last time I was in this hospital I was having Cree, but this time it was because out baby had no heartbeat in our 12 week scan and I had to have surgery.
“We were so excited & planning a space for our new baby in our family, we just couldn’t wait to see our news with you all, but unfortunately sometimes life just doesn’t go as we plan.”
She heartbreakingly added: “So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken …but couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home.”
The post was quickly flooded with messages from her celebrity pals. Former ITVBe co-star Samantha Faiers, who recently became a mum again to her third child, wrote: “This is heartbreaking. Sending you lots of love and strength.” Former model Danielle Lloyd said: “So sorry for your loss @xkateferdinand.”
Former Big Brother winner Kate Lawler replied: “Oh Kate. I’m so deeply sorry for you and your lovely family. Sending you so much love and hugs.” Tia Lineker, the daughter of Wayne, added: “So sorry Kate.”
Fans were also showing their love and support. @shannenmariie said: “Sending so much love to you and your family Kate. Take care of yourself and rest up.” @ckingy007 commented: “I’m so so sorry to hear this. Sending lots of love to you and your family.” @gloriouswildflower replied: “So sorry for your loss, there’s no feeling like it and I hope you find peace somehow.”
Kate, 30, shares one-year-old son Cree with Rio, 43. She is also stepmother to his three older children – Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and 10-year-old Tia – who he had with his late wife, Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 from breast cancer.
Kate, who has been married to Rio since 2019, has been open about her journey as a step-mum and becoming a first-time mum to biological son Cree. The couple also released an intimate and powerful documentary with the BBC in 2020, Rio and Kate: Becoming A Stepfamily.
