Folk icon Linda Perhacs reportedly missing as friends seek answers after months of silence

Linda Perhacs' friends say the 82-year-old psychedelic folk singer has been unreachable for eight months after her legal guardian discharged her from care.

Friends of legendary folk singer Linda Perhacs are asking the public for help, claiming the 82-year-old artist went missing after leaving a residential care facility about eight months ago.

In a statement shared with Fox News Digital by Perhacs' former manager, Laurel Stearns, friends and collaborators said the acclaimed singer-songwriter was discharged from the facility under the supervision of her legal guardian and has not been heard from directly since.

They said repeated attempts to reach both Perhacs and her guardian have gone unanswered.

"Concern is growing among friends, collaborators, and members of the music community regarding the well-being and current whereabouts of acclaimed singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs," the statement read.

According to the statement, "she was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian. Since that time, numerous friends and longtime collaborators report they have been unable to establish direct contact with her. Repeated attempts to communicate with her guardian have also, they say, gone unanswered."

Those issuing the statement emphasized they are not accusing anyone of misconduct, but rather "seeking confirmation that Linda is safe, well, and receiving appropriate care, while expressing concern over the prolonged absence of communication with a beloved public figure."

The apparent disappearance of Perhacs has prompted both an Adult Protective Services case and a police report, according to the folk icon's friends. With the investigation ongoing, additional details are being withheld.

Perhacs' decades-spanning career took an unexpected turn when her 1970 album "Parallelograms" — initially overlooked upon release — was rediscovered decades later and transformed into a cult classic. The singer-songwriter later experienced a career resurgence with the release of "The Soul of All Natural Things" in 2014 and "I'm a Harmony" in 2017.

After months without direct contact, friends said they decided to speak out in hopes of confirming Perhacs is safe and receiving appropriate care.

"As a public artist whose work has profoundly influenced musicians and listeners around the world, Linda's well-being is of genuine concern to a broad community of admirers and colleagues," the statement continued.

"Those issuing this statement respectfully request that anyone with verified information regarding Linda Perhacs' current condition or means of contact reach out to her authorized representatives or designated point of contact. The intention is not to intrude upon her privacy, but simply to ensure that she is safe and to re-establish communication with someone whose artistic contributions continue to resonate across generations."
