Haley Cavinder fires back at an internet troll who mocked her looks, while Pat McAfee faces backlash for sitting with Trump at a high school event.
'Nightcaps' is a daily column that catches you up on the biggest sports, news and culture stories you may have missed while pretending to do work at your desk. It runs Monday–Friday on OutKick.com.
Second Hump Day of August. We're here. We've made it. We've all waited for this day. We've grinded our tails off from MONTHS now for this very moment ...
NFL Preseason Week 1 Eve! Can you feel it? Who's excited? Anyone? Bueller?
Fine. It ain't exactly the real thing, but Lord knows it beats more WNBA talk. Right? Can you at least give me that?
I'll take anything at this point. And if that something is a six-pack of preseason games tomorrow night, I'll gladly take it and RUN.

Welcome back, NFL. Let's get this preseason started so we can get through it as quickly as possible and get to the real thing.
Welcome to a Hump Day Nightcaps — the one where new Dallas Cowboys wife, Haley Cavinder (Ferguson), fires back at an internet troll who took a nasty little shot at her earlier this week.
This is what training camp is for, folks. Everyone is working out the kinks right now.
What else? I've got the wokes getting MAD MAD at Pat McAfee for attending a high school sporting event with Donald Trump, Ryan Clark looking like an absolute clown after attacking Sophie Cunningham and Seahawks coach Mike McDonald going scorched earth on a player who breathed on Sam Darnold during practice.
No. 1 rule of training camp, folks. Don't touch the quarterback! Frankly, that's pretty much the No. 1 in games at this point.
OK, grab you a filet mignon for National Filet Mignon Day and settle in for a Hump Day 'Cap!
Can't believe it's been a full year since last year's NFMD! Time flies. I went back and looked at my Mount Rushmore of Steaks from last year's class, and I think I'd like to amend it today:
1. Ribeye (this one hasn't changed)
2. Filet (neither has this one)
3. Strip (left this one out last year)
4. Standing Rib Roast! (Also left this one out)
Nothing beats a Ribeye steak. I'll die on this hill. My wife is a strip steak truther because she claims the ribeyes are too fatty. Hogwash. The fat is the best part of a well-cooked ribeye.
Yes, I realize a rib roast is essentially a ribeye, but it tastes completely different to me. I did one on the smoker last Christmas Eve and it was some of my finest work.
Pro tip: Get you a standing rib roast (or strip) when they're on sale at the Publix and have the butcher cut them for you. Vacuum seal them up and throw them in the freezer for a later date. You're welcome!
PAT MCAFEE ATTENDS SPORTING EVENT WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP WEARING JEANS AND A BACKWARDS CAP
OK, let's get this class started with new Dallas Cowboys WAG Haley Cavinder, wife of star TE Jake Ferguson, taking on an internet troll earlier this week:
"I posted this picture of me and my husband last Saturday and I was getting tagged on X because this man decided to comment on my looks and my smile," she said before dropping an 'F-U' on Teddy2steppin.
"I thought my smile looked good ... F–k you! Let me go practice my smile more for you."
Get him, Haley! Don't bend the knee to the #TROLLS! It's a tough life being a Dallas Cowboys WAG. Haley's in training camp right now, just as much as the players are.
She'll have the rust knocked off and be ready to roll when Sept. 13 rolls around and we're all forced to watch the 27th straight season of Giants-Cowboys opening up the Sunday Night Football schedule.
Can't wait.
Speaking of internet trolls, let's head back to X and see how folks are handling Pat McAfee's big night with Donald Trump at the Patriot Games:
I could go on and on. It's a cesspool over on Elon's app right now. People are FURIOUS with Pat McAfee today because he — checks notes — sat with the President of the United States at a high school sporting event?
Incredible. It really is amazing what these people get mad about. But yeah, let's go ahead and cancel Pat McAfee because he sat with Trump at a high school sporting event — which was on ABC/ESPN!
Surely the #MOB has this same energy for everyone, right?
Alllllllllllrighty then! Moving on ...
Let's rapid-fire this Hump Day class into a big Hump Day night. First up? Speaking of ESPNers, anyone see the absolute nonsense Ryan Clark spewed on his podcast yesterday?
Spoiler alert: He's not a Sophie Cunningham fan! Shocking, I know.
ANTI-CAITLIN CLARK ESPN PUNDIT TRIES JUSTIFYING CLAIM THAT CLARK ISN'T AMONG THE BEST GUARDS IN WNBA
"Divisive gossip from a 9-point scorer gets more attention than the league’s best teams and players," Clark tweeted Tuesday while also pushing a clip of his podcast further calling out Cunningham.
Without ever mentioning her name, of course.
"We're seeing players who don't even average 10 points a game, and that's who's on your networks and TVs, answering questions and starting back and forths about things that aren't basketball," he continued.
"To me, it's about pushing the right things. Talking about the right things. Making sure the right things are at the forefront of people's mind."
ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON'T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!
Clark also went on to list all the great WNBA players at the moment that we should instead be focusing on, and included Caitlin Clark ... with a caveat:
"It can be different ways, right? She can be one of the faces of the league, but you can acknowledge that she still has to get better at basketball."
Amazing. Ryan HATES Sophie and Caitlin. Hates, hates, HATES them. The best part?
Sophie was the best player on the court in last night's win over New York, going 4 of 5 from the field (all three-pointers) and finishing with a +/- of +17 — the best of any player who played.
But yeah, she's just a divisive gossiper who had the audacity to say that ... she wants to protect little girls in locker rooms.
Disgusting!
These people are just the best. The gift that keeps on giving. What a blessing.
OK, that's it for today. Good Hump Day, everyone.
Here's Seahawks coach Mike McDonald losing his you-know-what on a player that got a little too close to Sam Darnold during practice.
Not tolerated, clearly.
