Amazfit's T-Rex 3 Pro has a lot of great headline features: A titanium bezel, a sapphire display, multi-week battery life, and on-device route planning for its “pro” version. And at $399.99, it's still on the budget end compared to similarly feature-rich rugged sports watches. Turns out, you can get even more out of this watch with some Amazfit-specific hacks. Here are five features in the Amazfit T-Rex Pro that go a bit beyond the manual.

Unlock a secret developer mode in your Amazfit watch
In the Zepp app, go to Profile > Settings > About, then tap the Zepp logo seven times. Voilà: You've just unlocked developer mode. It's a fun rabbit hole if you like poking around under the hood, and it can occasionally be useful for troubleshooting sync issues or checking firmware details that the standard interface hides from you.
Developer mode also lets you install custom watch faces, rather than relying on the existing native watch face library and upload a custom face on your computer, scan a generated QR code, and install it directly onto your watch.
Let the flashlight do more than light your way
Most users know their T-Rex 3 Pro has a built-in flashlight, activated with a long press of the UP button, and the Pro version specifically pairs a white LED with a red one. The red light is the real hidden gem: it preserves your night vision, which matters if you're checking a map at a campsite or trying not to wake someone up while moving around a dark room. The flashlight also doubles as an SOS strobe, so in an actual emergency you can trigger a flashing distress signal without fumbling for your phone. If you've only ever used the white beam, it's worth knowing that red mode and SOS strobe exist a tap away. After turning the flashlight on, here's how to use different modes:
Tap the flashlight icon on the screen, or quickly press the UP or DOWN buttons to cycle through normal white intensities and the low-interference red light mode.
Press the UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously to activate an ultra-bright beam. This mode lasts for up to 30 seconds and requires a brief cooldown period before you can use it again.
Pull down the watch screen to open the Control Center and tap SOS to start emergency signaling.
Go to Settings > Assistant (or Workout) > Safety Light to enable automatic flashing patterns while running or cycling in the dark.
Ask the watch to plan your way home for you
The offline mapping system on the T-Rex 3 Pro goes further than your standard "record only" breadcrumb trail. Beyond simple point-to-point navigation, it supports round-trip routing, meaning you can tell the watch how far you want to go and it will generate a loop that brings you back to your starting point, no destination required. Pair that with auto-rerouting, which recalculates automatically if you wander off the planned path, and you get a level of route planning that used to be reserved for far pricier GPS watches. It's a great way to explore an unfamiliar trail network without any real risk of getting stuck trying to retrace your steps.
Here's how to use Amazfit's automatic round-trip route planning:
Open the map, wait for positioning, press SEL > Navigation > Create Round-Trip Route.
Choose workout type, direction, and target distance. The watch will generate a round-trip route automatically.
Tap Start Workout to begin, or Save Route to use later under My Route.
If you deviate more than 500 meters from the route during the workout, the watch will automatically trigger the route recalculation function.
Track walks with your dog as their own category
Scroll past Running and Walking, select More Workouts, and you'll find Dog Walking mode. This way, you can keep a real history of outings with your pet separate from your personal training log. Because it's tucked a couple of menu levels deep, most owners never stumble across it and end up logging dog walks as generic walking sessions instead, losing that dedicated record.
Silence everything except the apps that actually matter
If you have a T-Rex 3 Pro, you're probably who values getting out into nature, far away from screens and nonstop notifications. Still, you might want important alerts from your watch if you're heading out on a hike alone.
Head into your watch's settings and toggle individual watch app alerts on or off separately, so critical alarms and low-battery warnings still function even when everything else is muted. For app-specific control, the path is Notifications and Reminders, then App Notifications, then App Alerts, where you can enable only the handful of apps you actually care about, such as messages from a specific person, while keeping the rest of your wrist quiet during an outing. It's a small setup investment that pays off every time you're biking through the trails and don't want your wrist buzzing over a promotional email.
Bonus hack: Clear water out of your watch quickly and easily
I'd like to leave you with a bonus hack, since I assume you're not afraid of inclement weather: Amazfit has a built-in water ejection feature. Water can linger in your watch's microphone and speaker ports, muffling sound or triggering false touches. Here's what to do: Swipe down from the main screen to open the Control Center, tap the Droplet icon, and hold your watch with the speaker facing downward. The watch will vibrate at specific frequencies designed to physically push moisture out of the ports. Like all the hacks above, this is one of those features it's good to know about now, so you're ready for the moment you really need it.
