Over the weekend, Amazon hiked prices on tons of their in-house tech, including Kindles. The basic Kindle (16GB) jumped from $109.99 to $149.99, and the Kindle Paperwhite (16GB) went from $159.99 to $199.99. Those are painful increases. But there's no need to fret because there's another e-reader that's on sale, and it happens to be a model we love at Mashable.

As of Aug. 24, the Kobo Clara Colour e-reader (16GB) is on sale at Amazon for $159.99, down from the list price of $179.99. That's an 11% discount.

I'm not sure where my Kindle Paperwhite lives anymore. It's probably in a box in the closet. But I do know where my Kobo Clara is located because I use it almost everyday. I prefer the Kobo over my Kindle for a few reasons, and one of the major ones is that it's smaller. Instead of the seven-inch display on the Kindle Paperwhite, the Kobo Clara Colour is a petite six-inches that I find more comfortable to hold.

The basic Kindle measures six inches, but it comes with ads, doesn't have an e-ink display, and it's only $10 less expensive compared to the sale price on the Kobo Clara Colour. Plus, like the name suggests, you get a color display on the Kobo Clara.

Mashable Lead Shopping Reporter Samantha Mangino reviewed the Kobo Clara Colour and wrote, "The Clara took me by surprise, a perfectly handheld e-reader that's an incredible value considering its color display." Kindles win when it comes to battery life, but I'm not upset to recharge my Kobo every six weeks or so.

Another unique feature on team Kobo is the Kobo remote, serving as the only e-reader brand with a native remote. While it might seem like a silly or unnecessary accessory, I adore using the Kobo remote and recommend it to anyone with a Kobo.

If you've been thinking about a new e-reader and are feeling letdown by Amazon's price increase, go with the Kobo Clara Colour while it's on sale for under $160. It comes with plenty of great features and zero ads.
