Florida woman reaches plea deal after months behind bars for allegedly having drugs fall out of 'jail purse'
Reagan Cox struck a plea deal on charges of introducing contraband into a Brevard County jail after cocaine allegedly fell from her "jail purse."
A plea deal has been struck between prosecutors and a Florida woman who allegedly had drugs placed in her "jail purse" by someone during an intimate encounter. That was her story anyway.
Reagan Cox was arrested in late June on charges of resisting an officer without violence during a traffic stop. At the time, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office's social media announcement didn’t mention the reason for the stop.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey, I assume, was more concerned with telling the story of how the 30-year-old had introduced contraband into a jail using her butt. Understandable, but we have those details now.

We now know that officers said she was "failing to maintain a single lane of travel" prior to being pulled over. They claimed she was "slow" and "lethargic" and that they smelled "the odor of burnt marijuana."
Cox was in court Tuesday and The Smoking Gun reports that she entered pleas to the charges of introducing contraband into a jail and obstruction. Prosecutors dropped a drug possession count.
She was reportedly placed on 18 months of probation and fined about $700 by a Circuit Court judge. In addition to that, she was sentenced to 70 days in jail, which she had already served following her arrest.
Some may say it was a summer lost for her, but considering how the abnormality in her lower region turned into a baggie of what tested positive for cocaine at her feet after falling out of her jail purse, it could have been worse.
We may never get to the bottom of how the substance, whatever it was, ended up in her possession. But we are getting an end of sorts to this chapter of the story.
The true test of whether anything was learned during this summer behind bars will come now that a plea deal was reached. One can hope that the jail purse, as was so eloquently described by the sheriff, is no longer put to use.
That would be a win for all.
