Sheriff's deputy saves man from fiery wreck after high-speed chase ends in crash

A sheriff's deputy pulled a screaming man from his burning vehicle moments after he led authorities on a high-speed chase which ended in a crash.
According to officials, the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the suspect driving about 20 miles per hour over the speed limit on State Highway 104 in Kingston, Washington, around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
The driver refused to pull over and then accelerated, reaching speeds of 111 miles per hour, according to the sheriff's office.

The deputy said he lost sight of the suspect until he noticed tire marks on the road and billowing smoke nearby. He then discovered the man had driven his SUV into a yard, where it slammed into a tractor and burst into flames, according to photos and body camera footage.
In video released by authorities, the deputy first tried to get the man out through the driver's side window by breaking it with his flashlight. He abandoned that idea after the trapped man shouted, "I can't get out that way!"
The deputy moved to the passenger's side door and began repeatedly slamming the handle with the edge of his flashlight, all while the flames from the car's engine grew higher and hotter, the body cam footage showed.

Eventually, a Port Gamble police officer arrived with a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. The video then cut to the deputy pulling the man out of the mangled car.
North Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews arrived and airlifted the man to a hospital so he could be treated for his injuries.
He faces two charges, including attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving.
The man was not identified by authorities.
