Jamie Dimon says Anthropic's Mythos supercharged AI cybersecurity risks

  • JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon says Anthropic's Mythos made cybersecurity risks far worse.
  • He says AI has exposed vulnerabilities that companies didn't know existed.
  • AI safety concerns are growing after recent testing incidents.

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Anthropic's Mythos AI model has dramatically raised cybersecurity risks.

The risks "went up 10-fold after Mythos," Dimon told Bloomberg TV on Tuesday.

"AI created vulnerabilities that we didn't know about, and we always worried about cyber before these things," he added.

The JPMorgan CEO has long described cybersecurity as one of the bank's biggest risks, making his latest comments notable as the tech industry grapples with the implications of advanced AI models.

Dimon is the latest prominent business leader to warn about the risks posed by increasingly powerful AI systems.

His comments come as frontier AI developers face heightened scrutiny over the safety of their most advanced models.

In recent weeks, AI researchers, technology executives, and some lawmakers have renewed calls for stronger international cooperation to reduce the risk of catastrophic misuse of advanced AI.

The debate has intensified after Anthropic and OpenAI disclosed separate incidents during safety testing in recent months that raised new questions about how reliably their most capable AI models can be controlled.

The incidents have also fueled calls from some AI researchers and executives to slow the development of frontier AI models until stronger safety safeguards are in place.

Dimon said those risks are real but argued they should be met with practical safeguards rather than panic.

"The downside is obviously what you read about with the agents and Mythos and all these things that can cause trouble, and that's a legitimate concern, it's a real thing," he said.

"I'm not going to get hysterical over, 'Is it existential or not?' What we're doing is rolling up our sleeves and going to work to fix it," he said.
