Jon Stewart has a blunt response to Trumps deal with Russia

Jon Stewart has responded to the diesel deal Trump announced with Russia, shortly after the US placed fresh sanctions on the import of oil and gas from the country.

Given that Trump's administration recently placed fresh sanctions on the import of Russian oil and gas, it was something of a surprise when the US itself announced a diesel deal with Russia just weeks later.

Nobody was more baffled than Jon Stewart. Speaking in his Daily Show monologue above, the host digs into the reasons behind the deal using a Russian doll as a visual aid, removing a layer whenever he disagrees with something Energy Secretary Chris Wright says in its defence.

"Why would we motivate a group to sell diesel when we just put sanctions on them for selling diesel?" Stewart asks. "Doing the opposite within a month is insane, it's illogical, it's incoherent."

Stewart finishes with a mock call to Starlink customer service, in an attempt to get to the bottom of why the network recently slowed in Ukraine.
