Pope Leo XIV needs no further cancer treatment after lung tumor removed, doctors say
Pope Leo XIV's doctors say the lung adenocarcinoma tumor removed Oct. 13 was localized, and a cancer assessment found no further treatment needed.
Pope Leo XIV will need no further treatment for lung cancer after final tests confirmed the disease was localized, his doctors said Wednesday.
The tumor removed Oct. 13 was a lung adenocarcinoma, Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora said.
A subsequent cancer assessment confirmed that "no further treatment is necessary," the doctors said.
The findings followed testing of the removed tumor and an additional assessment of the pope’s need for further care.
