Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr makes wild admission about costly error as team faces postseason elimination

Jazz Chisholm Jr. airmailed a costly throw in the New York Yankees' ALDS Game 2 loss and admitted he'd still make the same play all over again.

The New York Yankees face an all-too-familiar 2-0 deficit in the postseason, largely due to an all-too-familiar mind-numbing facet of the team.

The Yanks committed three errors in the first four batters of the bottom of the first inning in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Monday night, and one of them was the result of an additional mental error that's not in the box score.

In an attempt to make a highlight-reel double play that had no chance of being turned, second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. airmailed a throw that brought in the first run.

It has long been said that there is a lack of accountability in the Yankees' clubhouse, and that appeared to be the case postgame with Chisholm.

When asked if he'd "hold" the ball if he had to do it all over again, Chisholm showed no regrets.

"Honestly, I'd probably still throw it," he admitted without hesitation. "The play was trying to be made. I just feel like I could have probably tried to make an even better throw."

And if it were to happen again, Chisholm has an easy solution.

"Where I'd throw it, I'd try and throw it a little more closer to the base," he said.

RAYS CAPITALIZE ON FOUR YANKEES ERRORS TO TAKE COMMANDING 2-0 ALDS LEAD

Likely Cy Young Award winner Cam Schlittler did not have his best stuff, striking out only two batters while allowing hard-hit contact throughout the night, but the defense did him zero favors. Later in the first, Chisholm also threw a potential double-play ball high.

Chisholm's quote came roughly 24 hours after catcher Austin Wells seemed to have no regrets about making the final out at third by attempting to stretch an eighth-inning double, the Yankees' first and only hit of Game 1, into a triple.

"You have to take risks," Wells said.

The Yanks scored their only runs of Game 2 via two Ben Rice solo homers, while the Rays took advantage of shoddy Yankees defense and timely hitting to win, 5-2.

The series heads to the Bronx on Wednesday night, where the Yankees need to win three in a row to avoid yet another early exit and come within one year of tying their longest championship drought since 1923.
