Silo Season 3, episode 1: Have we already met the voice behind the algorithm?
In "Silo," the characters speak to a mysterious voice known as "the algorithm." But have we already met the voice's owner?
There are many mysteries in Silo — What's the deal with that weird cloud? How exactly does the safeguard work? — but one of the biggest concerns in Season 3 is the weird voice in the vault.
Who exactly is Camille Sims (Alexandria Riley), the new head of IT, talking to when they speak with that voice? A robot? A person?
We don't know for sure yet, but we do have a theory: Could it be possible that we've already met the voice's owner?

First, a quick recap. Back in Season 2, the currently AWOL Lukas Kyle (Avi Nash) made it to the bottom of the silo in pursuit of a secret code left by a former head of IT. He discovered a tunnel, and was addressed by a robotic-sounding voice that the subtitles credit as "The Algorithm." This voice, we learned, is the same one that communicates with the silo's head of IT in a room called the Vault. As of Season 3, the voice has picked Camille as its go-to contact.
The question is who, or maybe what, is the voice?
Well, the first thing to note is the name: "The Algorithm" sounds unmistakably machine-like, adding to the possibility that the voice could be some kind of omnipotent AI that's running the silo network. But that's only one possibility. And if the voice is in fact human, or at least based on a human, could it be the case that we've already met them?
Could the voice belong to congressman Daniel Keene?
The voice Camille speaks with is obviously distorted and robotic, but doesn't it also sound slightly familiar? Doesn't it sound, just a bit, like Congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman) that we meet in the flashbacks?
The algorithm's voice is uncredited in the show, so we can't say for sure. But it seems obvious that Keene's storyline is building to the silo's origin — something reenforced by the mysterious promo video Apple TV put out just before launch.
Of course, it's worth remembering that the silos were allegedly built hundreds of years before the events of the show. Keene is, presumably, long dead. But is it such a stretch to imagine his voice could have been resurrected in some way, possibly via AI, by the people in control of the silos? We'll have to wait and see.
